I guess it's fairly obvious I'm using Drupal for my CMS here. Sometimes I wish it weren't so obvious, but theming is a skill I have still not completely acquired. Let me tell you, if you want a geeky playground to get lost in, this is it! I wonder how many people install this and remain clueless how to do anything with it? Because you would be hard pressed to find a more confusing menu system anywhere on the planet. You will configure settings, and then later forget where you did it. Unless you're rain man, I guess.
I have variously wrestled with input formats, wysiwyg editors, add-on modules galore, the CCK module, the Views module, Advanced Forum module, updating the core files when a new version comes out, learning how to connect an installation to its database, the list goes on and on and on, and you don't even wanna know! Unless you're a masochist.
I would be completely and totally lost myself, if it were not for lynda videos and one book I got on the subject. Drupal 7 is supposed to be going to make things more user friendly. All in all, though, I'm not sorry I chose this CMS, I would do it again without a doubt, and I am better for the experience. But so much for computers being a huge time saver! Forget it!
Anyway, right now there are a couple of things I'd like to accomplish here on my site, and I can't seem to make them happen without getting into PHP, mySQL, and Javascript. I know that's probably pretty common to know what you want to do but not know how to do it, and I'm sure people get that feeling with Flash and Actionscript 3.0 too!
I feel your pain.
