Why I like K&R better than Allman

If you want to spend an amusing evening, try googling "indent style k&r vs allman" or some such search terms. Especially interesting are peoples' comments on why they prefer one above the other. Here's one such interesting page on Grant Skinner's blog: http://gskinner.com/blog/archives/2008/11/curly_braces_to.html. It's not something where everyone is content with their position and their favored style in a "live and let live" manner.

Flash's code hinting doesn't always exactly match the classpath settings!

I noticed something interesting about Flash CS5's code hinting recently. I wanted to import the greensock classes. I hadn't yet set my classpath for the directory that contains those classes, though. So I shouldn't have gotten any code hinting when I started writing my import statement:

import

At that point, the code hinting window came up, and I got "com" as a suggestion, then "greensock," and so on. But I should not have been getting those hints, because like I said, I had not set my classpath for the folder containing those classes.

Drupal Love Hate

Go Configure!

I guess it's fairly obvious I'm using Drupal for my CMS here. Sometimes I wish it weren't so obvious, but theming is a skill I have still not completely acquired. Let me tell you, if you want a geeky playground to get lost in, this is it! I wonder how many people install this and remain clueless how to do anything with it? Because you would be hard pressed to find a more confusing menu system anywhere on the planet. You will configure settings, and then later forget where you did it. Unless you're rain man, I guess.

Comment spam: myTolerance <= 0

I have noticed that some people, for whatever reason (God only knows) join this website just to post comments advertising some website or other. Many times they try to make it look like they are actually commenting on an article or something, but the comment is usually something like an astrological forecast: generic enough to apply to anything ("nice work," "this really helped me," "great article", etc, etc)! They have to go way out of their way to do it, because there is a system in place to make sure only a human being is joining.

AOL is bugging me lately. Surprise!

I'd like to thank AOL, and their AIM instant messenger program, for showing me the way to NOT make user friendly software. For years I have maintained an AIM account. Until recently, I was using version 6.19.15.1 of their instant messaging software. That is, until the darned thing kept bugging me to upgrade to their "latest and greatest" version, which I know is just going to be a lot more technologically advanced at serving up advertising. I was happy with the version I was using, but it would seem that THEY are not happy that I was happy.

New Website: The Flash Connection!

Welcome to my new website! I'm really excited about it!

I call it the Flash Connection. It's about all things to do with Adobe's Flash authoring tool, especially Actionscript, and especially Actionscript 3.0.

I have a bunch of really cool plans for this website. It will feature a portfolio of my own flash work. I want to also make a page of book reviews of the best Flash and Actionscript books. There will also be a series of Flash and Actionscript experiments with files that you can download....
